5 Skin Care Tips to Keep Your Skin Hydrated During Winter

Dry skin is very common, especially during the winter months with the use of home heating methods that decrease the moisture in the air in your house. Here are 5 tips to help keep your skin hydrated this winter.

  1. Avoid hot water in your bath or shower.
    • This can cause the natural oils in your skin to dissipate.
  2. Keep showers/baths to 15 minutes or less.
    • It may seem counterintuitive, but long showers/baths do not increase your skin’s ability to keep moisturized.
  3. Use a gentle body wash.
    • Some body soaps can be very drying. Using a moisturizing bar soap or body wash can help clean the skin while maintaining some of the skin’s natural oils.
  4. Gently pat dry and moisturize right after your shower/bath.
    • Gently drying rather than rubbing dry can help retain moisture on the skin.
    • Applying a cream or lotion after showering can help lock in the moisture.
  5. Use a home humidifier.
    • Adding moisture to the air with a home humidifier can be very helpful, especially when heating your home can decrease the humidity.

Following these tips will help keep your skin feeling good and hydrated during any time of year, but particularly during winter months.
