Dysport Q & A

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a neurotoxin the team at Idaho Skin Institute uses to temporarily smooth out facial lines and wrinkles. The dermatology team also uses the neurotoxins Xeomin® and Botox®.

Aging, genetics, and the sun all play a role in the formation of lines and wrinkles. However, your facial expressions make your lines and wrinkles more prominent.

When you smile, frown, or raise your forehead, your facial muscles contract and fold your skin. Over time, the frequent folding leaves its mark, creating lines and creases.

As a neurotoxin, when injected into specific points on your face, Dysport temporarily stops the muscle contractions that cause the lines and wrinkles.

What does Dysport treat?

Dysport is FDA-approved to soften and smooth frown lines, which are the lines in-between your eyebrows. However, the team at Idaho Skin Institute use Dysport, and Botox and Xeomin, to address other common beauty concerns, including:

  • Smoothing out crow’s feet and forehead furrows
  • Diminishing the appearance of bunny lines and lip lines
  • Improving the appearance of skin dimpling of the chin
  • Lifting the corners of the mouth
  • Softening a square jawline
  • Correcting a gummy smile
  • Diminishing neck bands

These other uses of Dysport are considered “off-label.”

The team may suggest adding fillers to your Dysport injections. Fillers are cosmetic injections that add volume under your skin to smooth out lines and creases and enhance your natural features. You can expect more dramatic results when combining Botox and fillers.

What can I expect during Dysport injections?

The team at Idaho Skin Institute develops personalized Dysport treatment plans specific to your beauty needs and goals. However, Dysport injections only take a few minutes and are well-tolerated by most patients.

Though you may experience some redness at the site of your injections, there’s no downtime after your session. However, your specialist recommends you put off any strenuous exercise for at least two hours following your injections.

Most patients notice an improvement in their look within 2-3 days of treatment.

How long does Dysport last?

Your Dysport injections may keep your skin smooth and wrinkle-free for up to five months. The dermatology team at Idaho Skin Institute recommends you contact the office to schedule your next round of injections as soon as you notice the effects wearing off.
